FabricCraft Guide
Understand the differences between yarn-dyed, piece-dyed, embroidered, and printed fabrics to choose the best craft for your needs

Yarn-Dyed Fabric

Yarns are dyed first, then woven. Color penetrates into the fiber for excellent color fastness, enabling complex patterns like checks, stripes, and jacquard — the mainstream craft for premium fabrics.

✓ Excellent color fastness, resists fading
✓ Enables checks, stripes, and complex patterns
✓ Natural color with richer texture
✗ Relatively fixed color options
✗ Higher minimum order for small-batch custom

Piece-Dyed Fabric (Solid)

Greige fabric is piece-dyed after weaving for even, pure color and an extremely rich color selection. We stock 100+ colors to meet various design needs.

✓ Rich colors (100+)
✓ Small-batch orders, from 1 meter
✓ Ample stock, ships in 48 hours
✗ Dark shades slightly less fast than yarn-dyed
✗ Mind washing temperature for dark colors

Embroidered Fabric

Patterns are machine-embroidered onto solid or greige fabric for a three-dimensional, refined look — a common craft for high-end womenswear and formalwear. Patterns are customizable with high uniqueness.

✓ Three-dimensional, exquisite patterns with a premium feel
✓ Highly unique, customizable
✓ Durable, resists color loss
✗ Higher cost
✗ Longer production cycle, requires advance stocking

Printed Fabric

Patterns are printed onto the fabric surface via digital or screen printing, achieving photo-quality detail with extremely rich colors and high design freedom.

✓ Extremely high design freedom
✓ Rich colors, custom patterns available
✓ Small batches available, fast samples
✗ Slightly lower fastness, avoid hot washing
✗ May fade under prolonged sun exposure
Huiyi Textile's in-stock fabrics are mainlysolid piece-dyed fabrics, while also offeringramie embroidery, linen printing, and ramie burnout craft customization services. For custom orders, please contact our sales rep in advance to confirm lead time and minimum order.
FAQ
We answer the questions our customers ask most
What's the difference between linen and ramie? Which is better for summer?
+

Linen: Coarser fiber with a natural, rugged hand feel, good breathability and moisture absorption — suited for casual, artistic styles, relatively higher priced.

Ramie: Fine, long, smooth fiber with stronger luster, cooler than linen, crisp and resistant to deformation — better for formal or business styles.

For coolness, ramie has a slight edge; for a natural casual feel, linen is better. Both are excellent summer fabrics.

What's the minimum order? Do you offer cut-to-length?
+

In-stock items support sold by the meter, from 1 meter minimum — ideal for small-batch sampling or individual designer purchases.

Bulk custom orders (yarn-dyed/embroidered/printed) require a minimum quantity that varies by type. Please contact our sales rep to confirm.

Does linen shrink? What's the shrinkage rate?
+

Bast-fiber fabrics have some natural shrinkage, generally between3%–8%, stabilizing after the first wash.

  • Pure Linen: approx. 3–5% shrinkage
  • Pure Ramie: approx. 4–6% shrinkage
  • Cotton-Linen Blend: approx. 3–5% shrinkage
  • Tencel-Linen: approx. 3–4% (lowest)

We recommend allowing for shrinkage during pattern-making, or pre-shrinking before cutting to avoid finished garments shrinking.

Which is better: yarn-dyed or regular piece-dyed fabric?
+

Each has advantages — choose based on your needs:

  • Yarn-dyed: Higher color fastness, color penetrates the fiber and resists fading, enables complex patterns like checks and stripes — ideal for premium apparel brands
  • Piece-dyed (solid): More color options (100+), budget-friendly, fast delivery — ideal for multi-color selection or small-batch purchases

Choose yarn-dyed for high color fastness or special patterns; choose solid piece-dyed for many color options or small-batch purchases.

Does linen wrinkle easily? How to reduce wrinkles?
+

Bast fabrics naturally wrinkle, a characteristic of natural fibers, but there are several ways to reduce it:

  • After washing, iron while half-dry for best results
  • Choose Cotton-Linen blend or Tencel-Linen, which resist wrinkles better than pure linen
  • Choose heavier weights (180g+) for better crispness
  • Choose yarn-dyed fabrics for more stable yarn structure
How long is shipping? Which regions do you ship to?
+

What is fabric width? How to calculate material needed?
+

Fabric width is the horizontal width. Our fabrics are typically 110cm–150cm wide.

Material reference for common styles (140cm width):

  • Adult shirt: approx. 1.5–2 m
  • Dress: approx. 1.5–2.5 m
  • Wide-leg pants: approx. 1.5–2 m
  • Jacket: approx. 2–2.5 m

The wider the fabric, the fewer meters needed for the same style. Adjust by style and size; contact us when unsure.

What is "99 Guaranteed Meters"?
+

"99 Guaranteed Meters" is a textile industry measurement standard, meaning:

  • Each roll is labeled 100 meters, with a guarantee of no less than 99 meters
  • An error within 1% is allowed — this is the industry norm
  • We guarantee full measure on every roll, no shortchanging

For small-batch purchases by the meter, what you order is what you get.

Do the fabrics contain formaldehyde? Are they skin-safe?
+

Our fabrics meet the national textile safety standard (GB 18401), classified by use:

  • Direct skin contact (underwear, baby products): formaldehyde ≤75mg/kg
  • Non-direct skin contact (jackets, home textiles): formaldehyde ≤300mg/kg

Natural bast fabrics contain no formaldehyde themselves, and the agents used in dyeing/finishing are within safe limits. Test reports available on request.
